Welsh local newspaper reports breaking news of woman wearing same cardigan for 54 years

Pam Hopkins says her cosy knit has never lost a button.

AH LOCAL NEWS. You’ve got to love it. Sure won’t they find earth-shattering tales in the most unassuming places?

Don’t get us wrong, getting great wear out of an item of clothing is quite the achievement, but one local newspaper decided that 75-year-old Pam Hopkins  should hit the headlines as a result.

Pam’s been wearing the same cardigan for 54 years.  Yes, 54 years: Can you imagine how many washes that is?

The yellow, green and brown creation was given to the Swansea resident by her mother-in-law for Christmas and has enjoyed pride of place in her wardrobe ever since.

“It has never lost a button and is still intact since it was given to me,” she told the South Wales Evening Post.

I was thrilled when she gave it to me. It is lovely. It is cosy and warm.

Now for the important question: Is this marvellous creation one of Penneys’ best?

I don’t know where it is from but it could have been from David Evans department or from Lewis Lewis which was on High Street. Years ago you would just get all the posh shops.

It seems Pam isn’t the only one making headlines because of her clothing either.

Just last year a retiring Texas gym teacher became an internet sensation when it was revealed that he’d been wearing the same brown jumper and polyester shirt for the guts of 40 years.

And then there was the case of the of the devout young American football fan: WKBT news reported that young David Pehl had been wearing the same Green Bay Packers jersey for 1034 consecutive days.

Now that’s the kind of headline-grabbing wear anyone would be delighted to get out of an item of clothing.

Keep an eye out for the report about mammy’s ‘good coat’ on the Six One.
